Adobe to present new PDF/VT variable print standard at Print World
Mark Lewiecki, Senior Product Manager for the Adobe PDF Print Engine, will bring Print World visitors up to speed on one of the most important developments in variable data printing with the release of the new PDF/VT standard.

In a series of three presentations at the Print Software Theatre at Print World, Lewiecki will demonstrate how the revolutionary PDF print standard is being adopted for digital variable printing.

“PDF made an incalculable difference in the world of standard commercial prepress,” says Print World show manager Alexander (Sandy) Donald. “Now PDF is poised to have a similar impact in the world of digital variable printing. Printers, corporate reprographic departments, transpromo and fulfillment houses need to know where this is going, and we are pleased to have Adobe once again bringing its innovations to Print World.”

ISO recently published the specification for PDF/VT, a next-generation VDP exchange format (ISO 16612-2). Production eco-systems which harness this standard will finally bring all the well-known benefits of PDF workflow to the world of graphically complex, personalized printing, e.g. collaborative review, blind exchange, live transparency, pre-flighting, and predictable colour. The format includes a robust metadata infrastructure that will enable dynamic runtime controls for VDP print production.

Over the next 12 to 18 months, leading VDP authoring vendors, imposition vendors, RIP vendors and digital press vendors will roll-out solutions which support PDF/VT.

The presentations at Print World will explore the underlying principles that guided development of the format, and describe its potential to unleash a new generation of Direct Mail and Transpromo solutions. Lewiecki will be available to answer questions.

The Print Software Theatre is located on the show floor at Print World: The World of Shorter-Run Printing, and admission is free to all Print World attendees. Lewiecki will be speaking on all three days of Print World.

Mark Lewiecki is based in Toronto, where he got his start in graphics production in the days before PostScript® and the desktop publishing revolution.
